This was by far the MOST emotional wedding I'ven been to yet.

Why? Because Megan's dad doesn't possess the ability to hold back a SINGLE tear.

I don't cry, but it was all I could do to not shed a tear.

Megan, like her father, also deprives her tear ducts of dryness when emotions are running about.

Besides all the water works, this wedding was SO fun!

Steve is Armenian and now, thanks to him, I have a new love of Armenian dance music.

Black Friday - My thoughts

What better name for the day after Thanksgiving than Black Friday? It's black, it's heartless and it's shameless. I've watched several videos of mobs at stores like Wal Mart going absolutely berserk over discounted towels and sheets, just to save a few bucks. I feel so embarrassed and ashamed for our country on days like yesterday.
I understand the want to get products at a cheaper price, but I feel like a major line has been crossed.
When people literally camp out in front of stores like Best Buy to make sure they are the 1st to get in, they're not only making fools of themselves, but they're missing ALL of Thanksgiving, a day that is mainly about reflecting and being thankful for what you HAVE, not what you want.

You would think after past tragic events that happened on Black Fridays, stores would get their acts together and find a better way to deal with the frenzy that waits outside. That would be the appropriate action to take, right? But what do they do instead? They decide to open their doors at midnight! Does anyone else see the failed logic in that? Obviously large corporations like Wal Mart and Best Buy care more about making another dollar than the safety of the customers, and they aren't 100% to blame. When consumers act like animals and are willing to trample over others just to make sure they get their arms filled with SanDisk memory cards for 1/2 off, why should Wal Mart hold back?
I know I'm not the only person in the world that feels this way and I also know that this is WAY off topic for this blog, but I just HAD to get this off my chest. Seeing people behave that pathetic makes me cringe. Shame on us.

I know I've said this before, but couples like this are a huge reason why

we love doing what we do.

We all drove up to Big Bear together and by the time we started taking photos,

it seemed like we were besties :)

Whether we were walking down the streets at the village or trekking

through the open fields, they trusted us, and that's huge.

The awesome sunset was just the cherry on top of the day.

I have known Keith for the majority of my life.

He was always "My friend's older brother," but as we grew up,

he graduated from the "Older brother" category to the "Friend" category :)

They met at a dance studio in Redlands, Ca and haven't

stopped shakin' their tail feathers since.

These two are a match made in Heaven.

Easy going, relaxed and care free are some words that come to mind when describing the Dortchs.

Their wedding was an absolute blast.

Every single guest was super friendly, which makes the day THAT much more enjoyable for Tori and I.

We had such a great time with Heather & Jeremy and we will definitely be seeing more of them in the near future :)

Here is a glimpse into their special day, which by the way, will go down in history as one of the most epic weddings ever taken place at Lake Arrowhead Resort, solely because of the couple themselves.

These two are such a joy to be around.

They're both incredibly friendly, which is my favorite trait in clients :)

We decided to take their photos on Hollywood Blvd, the location of their 1st date.

As usual, the place was super crowded, so instead of waiting a loooong time

to get the shot without people, I decided to embrace the public and include them in my photos.

We had a blast and we definitely saw our fair share of "different" people, but

what would Hollywood Blvd be without that?

This last weekend, Tori and I were able to participate in one

of my best friend's proposal to his girlfriend of 5 years.

It all went down on Catalina Island at the Botanical Gardens.

The weather was perfect and I must say, Robert was very suave about the whole thing.

Jessica had NO idea, which makes it that much better.

As soon as she saw him on one knee, all her emotions broke loose.

Even Rob started to shed some tears.

It's something special when you've been friends with someone since

4th grade and you're able to be there for him while he proposes to his future wife.

I get a little teary-eyed just thinkin' about it.

Anyways, she obviously said yes, since she has been waiting for this day for,

I don't know, her whole life.

Since Tori and I first met Mallory and Justin, we have grown to love everything about them,

I got to know his buddies and brother so I feel attached :)

The weather could not have been better. It rained ALL day Saturday and rain was

in the forecast for Sunday as well. Between Robin and myself, we must have had

hundreds of people praying for a dry day. Well, it must have worked. Not a drop

of rain hit the ground that day.

Nate shared his love of women's shoes with me.

He says that Robin can shop for shoes ANY time she wants!

Tori and I had the privilege of sharing the afternoon with this amazing family.

I can't begin to explain the kindness that they give out so freely.

Jhen is a wonderful photographer/blogger herself and has a huge heart for missions,

which is something that I am quite fond of.

Jon is an old friend from high school so catching up with him was great.

They may have created one of the cutest little girls I've seen in my 26 years of life.

Joss is such a sweetheart and, although squirmy at times, has the most adorable little smile.

I know this won't be the last of our adventures with the Starks :)

Last Sunday I was hired to take the head shots of some leaders at

First Baptist Church of Yucaipa.

The head pastor wanted something different than the typical head shot

in front of an ugly backdrop, which is more than OK with me!

I really wanted to get some natural moments with these great people.

Here are a few that I think I pushed the shutter button at just the right time :)

(These most likely won't be used because they don't exactly fall

into the "head shot" category, but nevertheless, here they are.)

Alyssa & Jaimeson - Jenks Lake, Ca Engagement

Tori and I had such a wonderful time with this little family!

We started off by grabbing a bite to eat at The Oaks restaurant on the

way up the mountain to Jenks Lake in Angelus Oak, Ca.

Noah, Jaimeson's 4 year old son, was surprisingly easy to work

with and he definitely isn't a shy little guy.

I don't think he paused to take a breath the whole way up the mountain ;)

We decided to take photos with Noah right away since his

attention span is just a ~~little~~ lot shorter than Alyssa & Jaimesons.

Love his expression here!

We brought some chalk for him to color with, which almost

got us kicked out of the park for "graffitting" on the sidewalk.

Seriously.

Blue jeans and rainbows for everyone.

So this tree is laying in the water right?

Great spot for photos right? Yes, but...

...

Jaimeson's sandal decided to slip off his foot and start floating away.

We tried to make it float back but after 10 minutes of failed attempts

(partly my fault :/ ), Jaimeson decided to cut his losses.

Jumping in wasn't an option either because of a nasty

bacteria that lives in the lake.

I used my gigantic reflector for this shot.

Worked quite nicely if you ask me :)

Overall, the time we spent with this family was quite eventful,

but we had a great time and came away with some awesome photos!

Disneyland Hipster

So yesterday Tori and I decided to head down to Disneyland for a few hours.

I was trying to decide if I should bring my camera or not.

I ended up telling myself that I would in fact take photos, but ONLY from my hip.

What does this mean?

Exactly that.

I hang my camera over my shoulder and snap photos without looking through the view finder.

I highly recommend this.

It's always exciting taking photos without knowing exactly how they're going to turn out.

Here's the settings I used for anybody who is wondering:

Auto ISO

AV mode with my aperture set to f/4

All AF points selected (so the camera can decide what it wants to focus on)

Focal length set to 24mm

This was just my way of spicing things up a bit.

I also was able to get photos that I normally would never take

for fear of looking like a creepster.

Maybe I'll use this method on our next wedding! ;)

So Tori and I bought what I thought was going to be
a portable reflector that I could carry around as I
photograph-ied people but it turns out that the thing
is 5' tall. It collapses down like a sun blocker for
the front windshield of a car but even then it's 2' in width.
I'm sure I'll be able to get some awesome light from it,
but we'll see just how much I like hauling it around with
me since I'm a pretty basic shooter in the first place.

Justin & Monica Pt.2 - Mission Inn, Riverside, Ca Engagement Photography

Since our 1st engagement shoot was rained out and we didn't

get to take some of the planned photos, a part 2 was definitely needed.

We couldn't have asked for a better day.

I know some people at The Mission Inn so they gave Tori and I a photographer's

pass and we had free reign of pretty much the whole place.

So, 2 of our very best friends are pregnant.

As I write this, Heather has a mango-sized, 80% boy in her tummy.

(The doctor wasn't positive ;)

Tori and I wanted to take some photos of them so

they can look back and remember this time before

their life changed for the better.

We have the incredible honor of being the child's

god parents and we aren't taking that lightly.

We only took photos for 20 minutes but if

you ask me, we walked away with some great moments!

Ok, if I said that this couple didn't fill me with joy just by being in their company...

I'd be lying.

The fact that they were willing to drive to Fullerton for photos, even though we knew there was a

99% chance of rain says a lot about what kind of people they are.

They're spontaneous, fun-loving and don't mind getting soaked if I tell them I have a cool photo idea.

This is part 1 of a 2 series engagement shoot because we really want to get some sweet shots

of them on their awesome beach cruisers but the weather just wasn't having it that day.

I hope, as you scroll down through these images, you can see how lucky Tori and I are

to call these two our friends.

I see many years of extraordinary friendship ahead for the four of us.

Jeremy & Heather - Oak Glen, Ca - Engagement

Jeremy is a sheriff and Heather is a dispatcher,

both for Riverside county.

What a perfect couple.

Believe it or not, their personalities compliment

each other better than their professions do.

These two are obviously made for each other and it

thrills Tori and I when we meet couples like them.

We spent the afternoon up in the

little apple town of Oak Glen, Ca.

Read on for more of the story on our time

with Jeremy and Heather.

We started photographing in a natural looking environment.

You have to take advantage of Oak Glen's beautiful surroundings.

After our scenic photos, we moved down to the heart of Oak Glen;

a little community of stores, shops and restaurants for all

the tourists that come to visit this quaint little apple town.

They also have a petting zoo :)

If you look close, you can see 2 Jeremys.

We started walking down the pathway with all of the animals and all of a sudden...

...as we walked by...

...a baby goat was born! Seriously, it literally popped out before our eyes.

Well, besides a little issue that involved goat poop and a white t-shirt,

it was another successful engagement shoot with a great couple!

This session was a blast.

We are so fortunate to be able to photograph such great people.

We're even more fortunate to photograph such great people in such beautiful places like Monterey.

Jeff & Whitney love each other in a way that makes anyone smile.

They're constantly compromising to make sure the other is happy.

While visiting them, they explained to us their "Open Hand" policy.

If something isn't too important to them, like the placement of a rug, for example, they hold out an open hand, which symbolizes a "No biggie" type of attitude.

Does that make sense?

I guess what I'm trying to get at is, they're awesome.

Any couple can look at these two and learn from them.

Also, I need to give a shout out to Alli Butelo for her assistance. Thank you!

Life on the fly

This past 3-day weekend was quite the adventure for Tori and I.
We had the pleasure of staying with some friends in Monterey.

Instead of starting this post off with a paragraph of information,

I'm going to just dive right into the photos.

You'll need to read the captions to get the whole story :)

Our first sight seeing excursion of the day was to Point Lobos.

Stay away from this stuff unless you enjoy the feeling of a stingy, itchy rash
wherever it touches your body.

Interesting little museum of whale hunting history.

Grey Whale skull.

Some of the trees along the coast had this beautiful,
bright orange moss growing on them.

A lot of the old people around town like to volunteer their time and
become a docent (tour guide) to the area.

Love the colors here.

We came upon this while visiting China Bay at Point Lobos. After a few minor adjustments and...

...Voilà!

Can you spot the deer? This is as close as it would let me get.

Watched the sunset at "Cardiac Beach" and got this
shot of that little boy digging himself into a hole.

We had the privilege to sleep on an Aero bed.
Best night's sleep I've ever had on a blow-up mattress.

We walked to the Monterey Bay Aquarium
so I was able to snap this photo on the way.

That little guy was pretty popular with the crowds.

The jellyfish were obviously my favorite exhibit at the aquarium :)

Waited for somethin' to swim through that streak of light.

After our 10 hour scenic drive from Monterey to Ontario,
we met up with my parents at Benihana's
for some amazing Japanese food.

After dinner, Tori dropped me off at Denny's in
Yucaipa to meet up with two of my best buddies.
Justin, who just got engaged a few weeks ago,
asked me to be his best man! I am honored
and totally excited to start planning everything.

That ended a very eventful and action-packed weekend for Tori and I. We are blessed to have such great friends and family. Hope you enjoyed!

Disneyland 2011!

Its been a while since we have updated our blog due to the holidays so I thought I would throw in a few photos from our Disneyland trip yesterday.

I bought Tori and I season passes for Tori's graduation present and yesterday was our 1st day back in more than 2 years.

We didn't get to do a whole lot but my parents came with us and they haven't been since before California Adventures was built so it was fun showing them all the awesome "new" things to see and do.

I took my little point and shoot with us.

Justin & Monica Proposal!

On Sunday, November 28th, 2010, one of my best friends proposed to the love of his life.

Justin wanted Tori and I to be there so we could capture the whole experience on our cameras.

Monica was clueless.

We met Justin and his family in Oak Glen, where everyone drove down to Monica's house, less than a mile away.

Monica's whole family "just happened" to be at her house that night as well.

The doorbell rang.

Monica's mom acted as if she couldn't get to the door as she said, "Monica, can you get that?"

To her surprise, Justin was at the patio with his family standing right behind him.

Justin whispered something he had been practicing ALL DAY into her ear as her smile grew larger by the second.

Finally, he dropped down to one knee and opened the little red box.

Tori and I have been there since the beginning of their relationship and I can't think of anyone more suitable for Justin than Monica.

They are absolutely perfect together.

We are SO excited for their future.
